Following suit of a recent fast food toy ban in San Francisco, CA due to the amount of calories served in one kid’s meal, health ministers in and around Australia have agreed to work on a national approach to making fast food healthier.
The move was generated by the Queensland Health Minister Paul Lucas at the Australian Health Ministers Conference in Adelaide.
He wants the contents of fat, salt and sugar to be regulated in fast foods and says a national approach will help get food outlets on board.
"The very fact that we can do it on a national basis actually does reduce costs," he said.
"We don't want to do things that increase costs unnecessarily.
"That's why you don't want to go out individually and have different rules in different states because they do operate on a national, if not international basis, many of these firms."
In related news, even celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is bringing his fight against fat to Australia.
Oliver has stated that obesity is something that affects millions of people across the world. “I’m delighted that the Queensland Government is paving the way in Australia with the help of The Good Guys. These cooking classes are fun, produce delicious food from fresh ingredients and really take the fear out of cooking. Today will be a landmark day in the history of Australia’s fight against obesity.”
